Purpose and Methods: In this study, the micronucleus test and comet assay of Vice faber were used to screen pollution situation of the surface water of Yangzhong city. Results: The results showed that the water of Yangzi river and Hongxin river was heavily polluted (Pollution Index3) and pollution of other water body was slight. Using the comet assay to detect the DNA damage induced by the organic extracts from four water samples, the results indicated that both the comet assay and the micronucleus test were able to detect the genotoxic potential of different water body and the comet assay seemed to be more sensitive than micronucleus test. Conclusion: Combination of the comet assay and the micronucleus test might therefore be recommended for monitoring the genotoxicant pollution of water body.
