MENG Zi qiang\+1, ZHANG Lian zhen\+2 (1. Institute of Environmental Medicine and Toxicology, Shanxi University, Taiyuan 030006,China; 2. China Institute for Radiation Protection, Taiyuan 030006, China)  
Purpose: To investigate the oxidative damage of DNA in human blood lymphocytes. Methods: Levels of 8 hydroxy 2 deoxyguanosine (8 OHdG) in human blood lymphocytes from healthy male smokers and non smokers were determined by high performance liquid chromatography system with an electrochemical detector. Results: (1)the mean level of 8 OHdG was significantly higher in smoker group than non smoker group, and a positive correlation between content of 8 OHdG and number of cigarette smoking per day was found; (2) A large interindividual variation in 8 OHdG levels was observed in smokers. Conclusion: Tobacco smoke can caused oxidant damage to DNA in human blood lymphocytes.
