FUNCTIONALLIZATION OF PP AND STUDY ON NYLON 66/PP COMPATIBILITY

Polypropylene ( PP) was functionized with glycidyl methacrylate ( GMA) . The influence of the graft monomer content , initiator content and rotating speed of screw on the grafted ratio and melt flow rate was studied. The GMA grafted and pure PP were blended with Nylon 66 respectively. It is found that the mechanical properties of the alloy PA66/PP-g-GMA are much better than that of the alloy PA66/PP, which shows the compatibility between Nylon 66 and PP is improved. Morphologies of compatibilized and uncompatibilized blends were observed by scaning microscopy. The dispersion size of compatibilized blends is reduced compared with that of uncompatibilized blends. It is found that morphologies significantly depend upon the compatibilizer content, molecular weight and the function allized group content.
