CAE INVESTIGATION ON EFFECTS OF GAS CHANNEL LAYOUT IN GAS-ASSISTED CO-INJECTION MOLDING PROCESS

The influences of gas channel layout on the gas-assisted co-injection molding(GACIM) process are investigated by CAE technology based upon the governing equations of the filling stage of GACIM process.The analysis of simulation results shows that gas channel layout affects skin/core distribution significantly in the GACIM process involved sequential injection of a high viscosity skin melt and a low viscosity core melt.The distribution of the material can be modified by changing the order of injection sequence.Injection pressure requirement is lowest and pressure distribution is more even in the case of gas channel layouts along the cavity of injection location to the farmost location.Gas penetrates in the core polymer along the gas channel in all of these simulation cases.
