SIMULATIONS OF 3-D ISOTHERMAL FLOW IN THE SCREW HEAD OF THE INJECTION MACHINE

Three-dimensional isothermal flows of two different screw heads of the injection molder are simulated by using the finite element package Polyflow and adopting the work conditions that the barrel wall is static and the screw rotates and reciprocates periodically.The velocity fields,pressure fields and stress tensor fields in both of channels are respectively determined.The results show that the screw with the whorled head can reduce the stasis and pyrogenation of the melting PVC and reinforce the plastication all the better.But it is slightly deficient in preventing the adverse flow in comparing to the screw with the conic head.
