STUDY ON PROPERTIES OF UNSATURATED POLYESTER RESIN/HEMP FIBER COMPOSITES

The unsaturated polyester resin/hemp fiber composites were formed by compression molding process. The effects of hemp fiber dosages and treating methods on the mechanical properties of composites were investigated, and FTIR technology was employed to investigate the structures of different composites. The results showed that the tensile modulus of the composites increased with hemp fiber dosage increasing, while the tensile strength, flexural strength and modulus and impact strength decreased first then increased gradually. Pre-treating the fiber with silane coupling agent KH-570 could comprehensively improve the mechanical properties of the composites. FTIR showed that, esterifying reaction between silane agents and hemp fiber had happened.
