Study on Surface Modification of Wood Fibers with Microorganism

Wood fiber(WF) was modified by attaching bacterial cellulose to the fiber surface or the gaps of micro-fibers using a strain of cellulose-producing bacteria.Polylactic acid(PLA)/WF were prepared by extrusion and injection molding process.The results showed that the influence of bacterial cellulose attached to wood fibers was significant on interface bonding between fibers and matrix.The mechanical properties of PLA/WF composite was improved,the tensile strength,flexural strength and impact strength increased by 27.05%,24.11%,39.13% respectively.
