Preparation and Rheology Behavior of PA6/Tungsten Composites

PA6/tungsten composite with high density of 11.214 g/cm3 was prepared by injection moulding.The scanning electron microscope was adopted to observe the composite’s microstructure.The heat story of PA6 and the mixture of PA6 and tungsten powders and the influence of rotating speed on balance torque were investigated by the torque rheometer.In order to improve the flow behavior of the composite,plasticizer pentaerythrityl stearate,N,N'-ethylene bisstearamide and dioctyl phthalate were added in the mix process of PA6 and tungsten powders.Using melt flow rate meter,the effect of plasticizer on melt flow rate of PA6/tungsten composite was investigated.The results show the tungsten powders are all well covered and well-distributed in nylon 6 matrix,and PA6 and tungsten powders were mixed uniformly when the temperature is 230℃ and rotate speed is 35 r/min.All these plasticizers can greatly improve the rheology of the composite and the EBS is shown to be the best plasticizer for the processing of PA6/tungsten composite.The calculated non-Newtonian index n value is less than 1 and the flow ability of the composite obeys the law of pseudoplastic fluid.
