New issues in the progressive collapse mitigation of structures

Progressive collapse leads to structural damage disproportionate to the original cause;hence,it compromises the safety of people,economy,and environment seriously.Concren has been greatly heightened for progressive collapse mitigation since the collapse of Alfred P.Murrah Building and World Trade Center.Three issues are illustrated in this article,including structural robustness and progressive collapse control,earthquake-resistant design and progressive collapse prevention,and structural form and layout for the sake of progressive collapse mitigation.Approaches discussed here should prove useful in the progressive collapse mitigation and control.
