Mechanical behavior analysis on improved connections of steel frames

Numerous rigid connections brittle fracture happened in the 1994 Northridge earthquake in America and 1995 Hyogoken-Nanbu earthquake in Japan,which indicate that cognitions on the damage mechanism of beam to column connection are rather inadequate.By using the FEM author analyzed those connections.Under the cyclic loading test,the strength and rigidity of improved connections is better and can satisfy the request of code for seismic design of buildings;The plastic rotation ability is better,may satisfy the request of the anti-curved steel frame connection plastic rotation ability.When loading increase to maximum load,the deformation of joint-panels is very slightly and can satisfies principles of general design method;The structure is simple and can be used conveniently.
