Experimental study and finite element anslysis of axially loaded glass fiber reinforced polymer sheets strengthened concrete columns

The behavior of GFRP confined concrete columns under axial comoressive force and the GFRP confinement mechinaism were studied by tests of 7 GFRP confined concrete columns and 1 reference concrete column and 44 GFRP confined concrete columns by finite element analysis.Two failure modes of GFRP concrete column,i.e.axial load-diagonal shear failure and axial compression failure.The results shows that the ultimate compressive strength was effectively increased.The degrees of the improvement relate to layers,spaces and sections of the columns,and the optimum FRP layers and spaces are gain.The computing results are compared with test one,the former can simulate the behavior of the columns with proper numerical model,the interaction between GFRP material and concrete is discussed based on the numerial results.Some useful conclusions are obtained though the study.
