The influence of isolator characteristics on the seismic response of base-isolated tank

The nonlinear seismic response of two types of the based-isolated storage tank with lead rubber bearing(LRB) are investigated.The Bouc-Wen model is adopted to simulate the non-linear hysteretic characteristics of force-displacement relationship for LRB.The influence of LRB parameters on the response of base-isolated tank is analyzed.The result indicates that the lead rubber bearing have a good effect on reducing the base shear,bearing displacement and sloshing height.Compared with the yield strength and damping of the bearing,the isolation frequency is the primary important parameters that affect the seismic response of the tank.It is observed that increasing the yield force of bearing can enlarge the effective range of isolation and reduce the bearing displacement,but can't certainly lead to decrease the sloshing height.The response of isolated tank is more intensely than that of non-isolated tank if isolation frequency is higher and no bearing damping exists,but increasing the bearing damping can simultaneously reduce the bearing displacement and sloshing height.For some isolation frequency,there are optimum yield strength and bearing damping that make the base shear attain the minimum value.It is suggested that the parameters of bearing should be optimized according to the aspect of isolated tank.
