Finite element analysis of the welded hollow spherical joints connected with rectangular steel tubes

According to the geometry characteristic of the welded hollow spherical joints connected with rectangular steel tubes,based on the elastic-perfectly plastic model and the Von-Mises yield criterion,the FE package program,ANSYS,is employed to calculate the ultimate bearing capacity of welded spherical joints connected with rectangular tubes,in which the effect of geometric nonlinearity is taken into account.A major parametric study is then carried out employing this model,especially the ab/D factor.Consequently,the new forms for the design equations are obtained.
