Analysis on the permeability of fine clay particles under strong electric field

Using constant head seepage.Using DC power supply system.To explore the electric field effect of seepage(MEFES) in tiny-particle clay.Kaolin and bentonite mixture according to a certain ratio of the sample column are tested under the same experimental condition.The results show that the electric field effect of seepage(MEFES) in micropore have great influence on seepage characteristic of tiny-particle clay.With the increase of electric field strength.The permeability coefficient of the sample increase.Under the same electric field strength.Permeability coefficient of the sample changes over time and eventually stabilize.The sample without electric field and the sample with electric field are tested with mercury.The results show that,in the strong electric field,clay particles to rearrange and change the pore distribution,which increases the permeability of samples.The conclusion shows that,under the electric field,clay particles and pore water will have polarization,the particles and water molecules to be aligned in this electrostatic effect.Thus changing the pore distribution of samples and the viscosity of pore water.Thereby affecting the flow characteristics of pore water.
