On the Contemporary Neo-Taoism

XU Kang-sheng
It is quite necessary in the contemporary times to establish the Neo-Taoism. To accomplish this we need develop the traditional Taoism and reconstruct the Taoist ideological system from the standpoint of contemporary times. The tenets of contemporary Neo-Taoism are the realization of “Three Returns”: return to nature, return to simplicity and return to harmony (so as to develop simple, natural human nature and accomplish harmony between man and nature). In order to realize this we should cling to Lao Zi’s thought Taw models itself after Nature, that is, to behave according to objective laws. On the other hand, it is human nature to pursue free creation. As the cognition and practice of the inexorable laws, man's freedom also lies in the transcendence of reality.
