"Humanism" and "Faithfulness" ——Liang Shiqiu's Translation of Shakespeare's Dramas from the Perspective of Gadamer's Philosophical Hermeneutics

CHEN Li (College of Foreign Languages,Anhui Normal University,Wuhu 241003,China)
Gadamer has condensed his modern philosophical hermeneutics into three main principles——historical interpretation, fusion of horizons and effected history, which helped to provide a new scope for researching translator's autonomy in translation activities. This paper employs Gadamer's three main principles to reconsider Liang Shiqiu's translation of Shakespeare's dramas, who is a China's great translator, and the author holds that Liang Shiqiu, with historical interpretation, and within his horizons fused with Shakespearian classical humanism, tempted to fuse Shakespeare's horizon based on "faithfulness",and pursed his idealism of eternal humanism.
