EFFECT OF PLANT-TYPE ON MAIZE BREEDING FOR HIGHER YIELDS 1. THE ROLE OF PLANT-TYPE IN INCREASING YIELDS

The plant type was proved to be a more important element for grain yields of maize by artificially altering plant types. The compact type had better light distribution in canopy thus possessing higher leaf area index and more potential productivity than the horizontally spreading type.
