Effect of sulfur on quality and yield of winter wheat

The canopy photosynthetic rate of winter wheat cultivars rose when the sulfur were applied on rich nitrogen but poor sulfur field It rose as sulfur increased for Lumai 22, but for Yannong 15, there was no difference between treatment S 3 and treatment S 2 When the sulfur was applied, the NR activity in flag leaf rose obviously, the content and the accumulating amount of nitrogen in two cultivars increased at each stage, and the kernel volume weight, the flour extraction, the protein content, the wet gluten content and the dough stability time for both cultivars were also lifted, with treatment S 2 highest among all treatments In addition, applying sulfur could increase yield of both cultivars For Lumai 22, applying sulfur could obviously increase the spikes, the kernels per spike and the 1000-kernel weight, with the yield of treatment S 3 highest For Yannong 15, applying sulfur could also increase the spikes and the kernels per spike, but had no significant effect on the 1000-kernel weight
