Effect of population regulation on grain yield and agronomic characters in high quality bread wheat variety Jinan 17

The experiment concerned with the relationship between sowing date, seed rate and grain yield was conducted at two different ecological locations in Shandong Province by using high quality bread wheat variety Jinan 17 as an observation material Results showed that plant population were regulated by both sowing date and seed rate Leaf area index (LAI), head number per hectare, grain number per spike and grain yield were all affected significantly by plant population regulation 1000-grain weight was not significantly affected by sowing date and seed rate, but varied greatly with different ecologic, climatic conditions and soil fertility Jinan 17 could get high yield at high seed rate with the initial plant density up to 300×10 4 plants per hectare, but it wasn't suited for late sowing As a result, Jinan 17 is a variety suited to plant in high soil fertility with good irrigation conditions
