Effect of bed-planting on grain yield and quality of wheat

Two high quality wheat cultivars Jimai19 and Yannong19 were selected to compare the different effect on grain yield and quality in two different planting patterns——bed-planting (BP) and conventional flat planting (CFP). The results were as follows: there was no significant difference on ears per hectare although there was a little bit increase in CFP; in terms of kernel number per spike and grain weight, the difference was significant at 0.05 or 0.01 level, and the yield increased by 7.53% and 13.28% respectively. Quality analysis indicated that it could significantly improve the grain test weight and flour extraction rate; improve the dough kneading resistance and make the flour processing quality better. But there were no significant differences in grain protein content, water absorption rate of flour and dough development time. The effect on gluten content, sedimentation volume and dough stability time were different in different cultivars.
