Effect of sowing time on grain filling characteristics and grain yield components of high quality wheat cultivars

The effects of sowing time on grain filling characters and yield formation of different kinds of wheat cultivars have been investigated.The results indicated that:firstly,the sowing time had strong effect on the dry matter accumulation of wheat grain.The dry matter accumulation peak of strong gluten flour variety 8901 occurred at the last sowing time while the weak gluten variety SN1391 at the first sowing time.The dry matter accumulation of strong gluten flour variety 8901 reached its peak at 28 days after flowering,and then decreased on a linear trend.However,the dry matter accumulation of SN1391 kept increasing during the whole grain filling period.Secondly,the changes of grain filling rate on different sowing time were similar and one-peak curve appeared.Thirdly,the average filling rate of different sowing time showed significant difference.For strong gluten flour variety 8901,the maximum filling rate appeared at the last sowing time while that of weak gluten variety SN1391 appeared at the first sowing time.Fourthly,the spike number,kernel numbers per spike,and the weight of 1000 kernels increased firstly and then decreased with the sowing time postponed,and the maximum yields of the two varieties occurred at the second sowing time.
