Change of Carbohydrate Content in Buds and Leaves of Chrysanthemum During Floral Differentiation

Dynamic change of carbohydrate content in buds and leaves of chrysanthemum during floral differentiation was studied with two cut flower chrysanthemum cultivars "Shenma" [Dendranthema grandflora(Ramat.) Kitam.] and "Wansheng"[Dendranthema grandflora(Ramat.) Kitam.].The results showed that at non-differentiated stage,contents of total soluble sugar,sucrose and starch in leaves were not significanty different from those in buds not only in early flower cultivar "Shenma" but also in later flower cultivar "Wansheng".At the differentiation stage,the contents of total soluble sugar,sucrose and starch in buds were higher than those in leaves in both of two cultivars,and those in buds and leaves of "Shenma" were higher than those of "Wansheng".The results suggested that higher contents of carbohydrate advantaged to floral differentiation of chrysanthemum.
