Effect of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi(AMF) on Growth of Medicago sativa L. under Salt Stress

A mesocosm experiment was conducted to test the effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi(AMF) on the growth and salt tolerance of Medicago sativa L.under no salt stress(0.046%),slight salt stress(0.2%) and severe salt stress(0.5%).As the results,with the increasing of the salt stress degree,the growth significantly decreased,the free proline and malondialdehyde(MDA) contents and the membrane permeability in the leaves significantly increased with the same AMF treatment.Under the same salt stress,the growth significantly increased,the free proline and malondialdehyde(MDA) contents and the membrane permeability in the leaves significantly decreased with the higher AMF treatment than those with the lower AMF treatment.The results indicated that AMF could increase the salt tolerance of M.sativa and relieve the effect of salt stress on the growth of M.sativa.
