Decolorization of synthetic dyes by new fungal isolates

Two different white rot basidiomycete F17 and PM2 were very effective to decolorize a wide range of structurally diverse synthetic dyes. The optimum conditions of dye decolorization were as follows: temperature 28℃, pH4~5, and dyes added to the culture after 3 days of incubation in shaken flasks. The ability of the two fungi to decolorise dyes was also affected by inoculated biomass and dye concentration. Dye decolorization was enhanced in the presence of metal ions such as Mn~(2+)、Pb~(2+)and Fe~(2+),wheres decolorization was inhibited by Ag~+、Cu~(2+) and Hg~(2+).A variety of inhibitors of lignin degradation, including azide, cyanide and thiourea, also notably inhibited dye decolorization.
