Investigation on adsorption of malachite green by aerobic granule sludge

Black aerobic granule sludge with good settling velocities was cultivated in sequencing batch reactor(SBR) fed with sucrose.The adsorption efficiency of aerobic granules,as a biosorbent,on malachite green was studied.The results showed that Langmuir isotherm equation could well describe the adsorption data,suggesting that the adsorption of malachite green on the surface of aerobic granule sludge was likely to be monolayer absorption.The maximum adsorption capability was 52.63 mg·gSS-1.At pH 6,a good adsorption effect was obtained.The pseudo second-order kinetic model was useful to describe the adsorption process of malachite green.The monolayer absorption density decreased with increasing aerobic granule sludge concentration.These results indicated that aerobic granules might be utilized an effective and economical biosorbent for dye wastewater treatment.
