CHARACTERISTICS AND TECTONIC SETTINGS OF THE PALEO-PKOTEROZOIC METAMORPHIC BASEMENT ON BOTH SIODES OF THE JIANGSHAO FAUL

Zhao Fengqing; Jin Wenshan; Gan Xiaochun(Tianjing Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources)
The paleo- proterozoic metamorphic basement in the Huaxia block eastern side of the Jiangshao fauit, iscomposed mainly of biotite plagioclase leptites, quartz mica schists interlayered with a small amounts of amphibolites andmarbles, which has been subjected to middle-pressure amphibolitic facies metamorphism and four episodes of tectonic de-formation. It was probably formed in a continent or continental margin from its protolith formation and geochemical characteristics. The paleo- Proterozoic metamorphic basement of the Yangtze block on the Western side of the Jiangshaofault is mainly outcropped in the Lushan mountains , named Xingzi complex, which is composed of biotite leptites,(stau-rolitegarnet)mica schists and mica quartz schists interlayered with amphibolites. It was formed in a more mobile continentor continental margin than the Huaxia block. There are some differences between the Huaxia block and Yangtze block inprotolith formation , metamorphism and deformation , which suggests that the two blocks did exist in South China in thepaleo-Proterozoic.
