The section studied in this paper is located in the Fenghuangshan, Chaohu City,Anhui Province The Carboniferous system is well developed and fossils are very abundant It is 83 83 m thick and can be divided into the Jinling Formation, Gaolishan Formation and Hezhou Formation of the Lower Carboniferous, and Huanglong Formation and Chuanshan Formation of the Upper Carboniferous The contact is conformable between the Jinling Formation and the underlying Devonian, and the contacts are pseudoconformable among the other formations The rocks are dominated by carbonate rocks, and clastic rocks are secondary.Carbonate rocks can be divided into sparry biograin limestones,sparry sandgrain limestones,sparry algalball limestones,limemud biograin limestones,limemud gravel limestones, biograin limestones, biograin-bearing limemud limestones, intraclast-bearing limemud limestones,limemud limestones and limestones, and there are also some dolostones Clastic rocks include quartz fine sandstones,siltstones,mudstones and shales The characteristics and origin of each type of rock are briefly described and discussed Petrological characteristics,fossil assemblages and sedimentary sequence analysis indicate that the sedimentary environments of the study area were shallow water platform in the early Jinling age and wide platform the late Jinling age, wide platform the early Gaolishan age and shallow beach the late Gaolishan age, typical tidal flat the Hezhouage, wide platfom and shallow beach the Huanglong age and Chuanshan age
