Optimal design of middle and low specific speed pump impeller geometric parameters

The efficiency of middle and low specific speed pump is low, mostly because of the disk friction of pump impeller.The disk friction loss is proportional to the fifth power of impeller diameter. The paper presents a method that enhances the pump efficiency by reducing the pump disk friction losses.The optimum design model is given by using the objective function of minimizing the size of impeller diameter to determine the variables of the vanes' outlet width, angel and inlet angel, diameter and the number.An optimal parameter group that satisfied the capacity and head was obtained through minimzation.The efficiency of middle and low specific speed pumps is enhanced.The design cycle of the pump is shortened.
