Structure and photocatalytic activity of titanium oxide doped with Nb ion

Titanium oxide photocatalysts doped with niobium ion were prepared by coprecipitation. The structure and photocatalytic activity have been studied by means of powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-vis DRS) technique and photocatalytic degradation of phenol in water. The results revealed that the photocatalytic activity of titanium oxide decreases for the energy of UV absorbance edge increasing with Nb 5+ doping. A new band gap state was detected due to Nb 5+ ions incorporated into titanium dioxide through Ti-O-Nb band.
