Effects of the response spectra of earthquake ground motions on the seismic response of the long-span bridge structures

The frequency content of earthquake ground motions has an important effect on the seismic response of the long-span bridges because of complexity of dynamic properties.The nonlinear dynamic time-history analysis is conducted for a two-pylon long-span cable-stayed bridge from artificial earthquake accelerograms.The correlation between the frequency content of earthquake accelerograms and the seismic response of the cable-stayed bridge reveals that the cumulative modal mass participation and difference in different parts of response spectra have significant effects on the seismic response of structures.The effects of the short-period parts of response spectra on seismic response are more significant than those of the long-period parts.All parts of response spectra which have great contribution to the seismic response of structures should be matched to target spectra.
