Radical scavenging activity and Constituents analysis of methanol extracts from leaves of Malus hupehensis

High performance HPLC-MS analysis and DPPH assay model were employed to investigate free radical scavenging activity and components of extract from flower of Malus hupehensis for the first time.The DPPH assay revealed that the methanol extract from leaves of the plant had moderate free radical scavenging activity with an IC50 0.53 mg/ml against 0.4 mg/ml DPPH radicals.High resolution HPLC-DAD-MS-DPPH assay revealed that the extract contained C7H12O6、C6H14O6、C21H24O11、C21H24O10 and C21H20O11,and the later three compounds showed significant radical scavenging activities.Data base searching revealed that the compound C21H24O10 is the known compound Trilobatin.
