Cao Jin et al.(College of Economy and Management Hexi University,Zhangye 734000,China)
Based on the theories and methods of ecological footprint(EF) and ecological carrying capacity(ECC),a case study on sustainable development in Zhangye City,a city in an arid area of northwest China,is carried out using the EF and ECC models, and the EF and ecological carrying capacity of Zhangye City in 2009 was calculated and analyzed in this paper. The results showed that the ecological footprint demand and the ecological capacity are respectively 3.798hm2 per capita and 1.453hm2 per capita in Zhangye City, and the ecological deficit is 2.345hm2 per capita.Based on that, the sustainable development of Zhangye City was evaluated and relevant measures were proposed.
