STUDIES ON CLUSTER ANALYSIS METHODS FOR QUANTITATIVE CHARACTERS IN SPRING SILKWORM

A multi-character investigation data by ramdomed block design of 19 spring silkworm varieties (Bombyx morl.) were used to calculate the cluster analysis of "phenotypic distance" and o's distance of the single block design. The results showed that both the phenotypic distance and O's distance expressed significant positive correlation with the genetic distance, the correlation coefficient was 0.97 and 0.90 respectively, and also indicated consistence with the results of their cluster analysis. Besides, these results might suggest a reference information, the experiment of quantity character distance and cluster analysis in sp- ring varieties, need not replications, directly use quantity character in- vestigation of the maintenance varieties to make multi-variete analy- sis, identify the better parents and superior heteric combinations. Such method may largely save the manpower and breeding materials, speed up the breeding process, provide the reference for further reseach work.
