Effect of Soil Humidity on Aromatic Tobacco Root System Development and Activity

Lu Jifeng et al (Hefei Institute of Economics and Technonogy,Hefei 230052)  
The root system development and activity of two main tobacco cultivars, Basma type and Samsun type, was studied under the conditions of different soil humidity. The result showed the dry matter weight, the values of absorption area and active absorption area of roof system of the two types,in the proper drainage treatment were much higher than these in other treatments. The values mentioned above of Samsun type in soil water content of 60%~80% were higher than these of Basma type, but quite opposition in soil water content of 35%~45%.
