Study on Apriona swainsoni Hope of Devastating Pest in Sophora japonica Linn

Duan Yu (Bureau of Garden and Forest in Suzhou, Suzhou 234000)  
One generation of Apriona swainson Hope was two years, and it overwintered in the xylems of host trees in different larvae stages. The adults laid eggs from the middle June to the late June. The hatching time was about in late June or early July. After a few months of hatched in the xylems, the larvae began to live through the first winter from middle November. From next March to early November of the second year, the larvae in the trunk continued their harm to the host trees. In the middle March of the third year the larvae reinstated their activities in their last living period. In early May, Apriona swainson began to pupate and the adults started the activity in hole in early June.The adults started their mate and laid eggs in night in the bark crevices of host trees above 8cm in diameter.This insect only did harm to Sophora japonica Linn. The toxic to stomach or contact insecticide used for the treatment of the tree trunk world was better for the control of the insect from middle to late June.
