Effect of Different Cultivation Patterns on Spring Corn on Asiatic Corn Borer

Effect of different cultivation patterns on spring corn of Asiatic corn Borer in Jiangsu coastal area was studied in this paper. The results showed that planting pattern of spring corn didn't affect the distribution and the transfer of the insects of different generations between corn and cotton. The insects of 1st generation damaged corn only, and those of 2nd generation mainly damaged corn and lightly to cotton too. The most of the 3rd generation transferred to cotton filed became the mainly damage to cotton. The insects of 1st and 2nd generation showed little difference between corn and cotton in both number and damage, but those of 3rd generation didn't. The number per hundred cotton plants and the percent of harmed cotton boll of the insects of 3rd generation in the directly seeding field of spring corn were 2.12 and 3.20 times as many as in the transplanted field, respectively; the speculated reasons were that the harvesting time of corn was corresponded to the pupation period of the 2nd generation insect when the insects were much more likely to suffer injury because of the fast development of the insects and the earlier ripening of corn, and some insects were took away earlier from field with the harvest, resulting in the reduction of the basic number of 3rd generation insects in the cotton field in the transplanted field. It was also found that the transplant of the spring corn had many advantages, such as reducing rate of seeding, preventing injure from rats during the emergence period, decreasing the area of nursery bed to increase the multiple-cropping index, shortening the life period by 7 days, increasing the yield over 10 percent and so on.
