80 You 98, a Late-maturing Three-line Japonica Hybrid Rice Combination with High-yield and Good Quality

Zhang Peijiang et al (Rice Research Institute of AAAS, Hefei 230031)  
you 98(80-4A/R98), newly-developed by the Rice Research Institute of AAAS and Hefei Sub-center of China National Rice Improvement Center, was a late-maturing three-line japonica hybrid rice. It was released to farmers in January, 2003. In Anhui late Japonica Rice Variety Regional Trials in 2000 and 2001, it yielded a mean of 7.20?t/hm 2, 4.2% higher than that of the check 70 you 04, and a mean of 7.02?t/hm 2, 3.95% higher than that of the check M1148 in productivity test in 2002, and it was with a growth duration of 130 days. It was about 105?cm in tall and had strong tillering ability and strong resistance to lodging. Its seed-setting percentage was more than 70% with a mean of 160 spikelets/panicle and a 1?000-grain weight of 26?g.Ten quality characters of 80 you 98 could reach the first or second class standard of Fine Rice Grain Quality Standard issued by the Ministry of Agriculture of China. The combination was evaluated with the resistance to rice blast (4-6) and bacterial leaf blight (3) in Anhui (both scored on the 1-9 scales). The high-yielding cultural techniques for the combination growth and seed production were also discussed.
