Analysis of the Importance of Quarantining Based on the Port Checking out Ratio for Johnson Grass

Zhang Qiang et al (Weed Research Laboratory, Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing, Jiangsu 210095)  
Sorghum halepense(L.) Pers.,a quarantine weed,was introduced into China with the import of soybean, which had resulted in its invasion of some regions. The analysis of the quarantine data in Zhangjiagang City during 2000 to 2002 showed that Johnson grass seeds were often found in imported soybean. Although it was not same in the imported soybean from the different regions, the port's checking out ratio for Johnson grass had no significant difference in different seasons and different batches through three years. It was imperative to adopt a persistent quarantine of Johnson grass in the imported farm produces through an integrated consideration of this weed occurrence. In addition, some managements to be adopted was discussed. The imported farm produces with Johnson grass seeds should be treated under control conditions. Some other measures on how to control the weed invasion were proposed further.
