Mercury Uptake in Tobacco and Amelioration of Mercury Phytotoxicity

The experiments in effect of different remediators on tobacco growth and the reduction of Hg contents in tobaccos were carried out. Tobaccos were planted in contaminated soils contained 1 mg/kg Hg. The content of Hg and the biomass of different parts during different growth periods were investigated with the application of three kinds of remediators. The results showed that the content of Hg in different parts of tobaccos was different during different periods. Three remediators to some degree reduced Hg contents in different parts of tobaccos. Meanwhile, they changed root adsorption index, primary transportation index and secondary transportation index,and increased the biomass of tobaccos. Bone powder, activated carbon and attapulgite was the good remediators that improved tobacco quality and yield.
