Effect of pH and N form on Vessel Development in Maize Roots at Seedling Stage

SI Jiang-ying et al(College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Yangzhou University,Yangzhou,Jiangsu 225009)  
Paraffin sections were used to study the effect of different pH levels(pH=4.0 pH=6.0) and N sources(NH4+-N,NO3—N) on structure of maize root at seedling stage.The results indicated that both of low pH and NH4+-N accelerated the vessel development in maize root.At the low pH level the development of vessels was earlier,with many more in number and larger radius when NH4+-N being as sole N sources.
