Effect of Magnetic Treatment on Seed Viability of Broad Bean and Activity of the Catalase(CAT)and Peroxidase(POD) in Seedling

[Objective] The purpose was to study the effect of magnetic treatment on seeds and supply the theoretical basis for the application of magnetic treatment technique in vegetable production and research on its biologic mechanism.[Method] The broad bean seeds soaked for 24 h were treated by magnetic treatment with magnetic induction intension of 200,400,600,800 and 1 000 mT for 5 min and 10 min,resp.,and then the seed vigor of broad bean and activities of catalase(CAT) and peroxidase(POD) in young seedlings were determined.[Result] In each magnetic strength treatment,the seed germinating potential,germination rates,germination index and vitality index were all higher than that of CK and the activities of CAT and POD in root,stem and leaf were all stronger than that of CK.The activities of CAT and POD in different tissues were different.It was higher in root than that in stem and leaf,and the lowest in stem. In the 5 magnetic strength treatments,600 mT and 800 mT were the best.[Conclusion] Magnetic field had some remediation function on cell membrane and the enzyme activity enhancement in magnetic treatment might be related to POD and CAT, which contained metal ions.The magnetic effect made metal-ion produce directional arrangement,which caused conformational change of enzyme and then activated enzyme.
