Breeding and Application of New Rice Variety Luhan No. 1 with Water Saving and Drought Tolerance

[Objective] New rice variety Luhan No. 1 with water saving was introduced . [Method] The breeding process, characteristics, yield performance and cultivation skills of new rice variety Luhan No. 1 with drought tolerance were reviewed. [Result] This variety was examined and approved by National Crop Variety Authorization Committee in June, 2005 and planted in provinces including Hubei, Henan,Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi and Fujian. Luhan No. 1 showed characteristics of water saving, drought tolerance, high yields and good quality, which was suited to be planted along Huaihe River with direct sowing on dry field. [Conclusion] This research provided theoretical basis for the extension and application of Luhan No. 1.
