Inhibition and Sterilization Effect of the Volatile Substances in Eight Kinds of Greening Plants in Campus

HU Ren-huo et al(Department of Chemical and Life Sciences,Xianning College,Xianning,Hubei 437100)
Inhibition effect of volatile organic compounds(VOCS) in common greening plant leaves on Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus,Bacillus subtilis and yeast was studied.Plants with preferable inhibition effect were selected from more than 50 kinds of plants. And the differences among their inhibition effects were analyzed.Result showed that VOCS released from 8 kinds of plant leaves had better inhibition effect on the strains, which were Cinnamomun camphorn L,Podocaarpus macrophyllus,Nerium indicum Mill,Euonymus japonicus,Viburnum odoratissimum Ker-Gawl,Photinia,Sabina chinensis Kaizuca and Cedms atlantica. From the angle of ecology, selecting plants with strong inhibition and sterilization effects as greening trees was beneficial to green campus construction.
