Comparative Study on the Abilities of Scavenging Free Radical of Some Natural Antioxidants

[Objective] The purpose of the study was to seek for the new method of comparing the abilities of scavenging free radical in vitro of some natural antioxidants.[Method] With TBHQ as CK,the abilities of scavenging organic DPPH·,OH· and superoxide radical O2-· of natural antioxidants such as Vc,VE,TP and rosemary extract were compared by DPPH,Phenanthroline-Fe2+ spectrophotometry and pyrogallol autoxidation methods.[Result] Under the experimental condition,the ability of scavenging DPPH· and OH· of TP was stronger than that of Vc,VE and rosemary extract,but Vc had better scavenging effect on superoxide radical O2-·.DPPH method was more suitable for comparing the abilities of scavenging free radical of these natural antioxidants than the other 2 methods.[Conclusion] DPPH method could be used to compare the abilities of scavenging DPPH· of Vc,Ve,TP,rosemary extract and TBHQ.
