Study on the Predatory Functional Response of Propylaea japonica Adults to Acyrthosiphon pisum in Alfalfa

[Objective] The aim of the research was to understand the controlling ability of Propylaea japonica adults against Acyrthosiphon pisum in alfalfa. [Method] In the laboratory, the predatory functional responses of P. japonica adults that were in unhunger and hunger for 24 h on A. pisum in alfalfa were determined. [Result] The number of A. pisum in alfalfa preyed by P. japonica showed a negative accelerative curve correlation with the density of A. pisum in alfalfa, which was accordant with Honing-Ⅱfunctional response model. x2 test showed that the theoretical value of disc equation was consistent with the measured value. The predation increased with the increasing of prey density within a certain range. The functional equation of preying A. pisum in alfalfa by P. japonica that were in unhunger and hunger for 24 h were 1/Na=1.512(1/N)+0.030 2 and 1/Na=1.087 5(1/N)+0.010 9 resp. The daily maximum amount of P. japonica adults that were in unhunger and hunger for 24 h were 33.11 and 91.74 heads resp. [Conclusion] The predation of P. japonica adults on A. pisum was greater and they had certain regulation effects on its occurrence.
