Study on Monitoring Soil Moisture and Crop Drought in Great Area by Using MODIS Data

[Objective]This study aimed to better utilize MODIS dada to monitor the soil moisture and crop drought in great area.[Method] Based on depicting advantage of MODIS sensor,the several methods of monitoring the soil moisture and crop drought by MODIS dada and the problems existing in remote sensing for water moisture and its development trend were discussed.[Result] The thermal inertia method adapted to monitor the soil moisture in the area including the bared soil or the soil for crop prophase growth.TVDI method adapted to monitor the soil moisture in the area with bigger vegetation coverage.The spectrum method was feasible to monitor the multi temporal soil moisture in great area by MODIS dada,which study the reaction of crop to water stress from two aspects of the leaf photosynthesis and canopytemperature.[Conclusion] It should be pay more attention to the studies on models of soil hydrology and remote sensing,on retrieval methods of remote sensing and on digital soil project.
