Breeding and Cultivation Techniques of New Hybrid Rice Combination K You 40

[Objective] The study aimed to popularize the new variety of Three-line hybrid rice K You 40.[Method]The breeding process,yield performance,characteristics and key points in cultivation techniques of K You 40 were described.[Result]K You 40 was a new combination of three-line hybrid rice combined with K17A as sterile line and R40 as restorer line.The combination had such characters as perfect plant type,strong tillering potential,tolerance to higher fertility and resistance to lodging,vigorous growth,heading uniformity and good maturity,and had been approved officially by Sichuan Crop Variety Authorization Committee in 2000 and determined by Chongqing Crop Variety Authorization Committee in 2005.[Conclusion] This combination was suitable to be planted as mid-season rice in the regions with altitude lower than 800 m and seldom suffering from rice blast in Chongqing city and Sichuan province.
