Studies on Effect of Alkaligrass(Puccinellia chinampoensis Ohwi) in Recovery of Saline Soil of Yellow River Beach

[Objective] New way to rehabilitate saline soil biologically by introduction of pasture was studied.[Method] The possibilities and necessities of alkaligrass were studied to improve saline soil of beach by introduction of alkaligrass into yellow river beach of Henan province.[Result] The plantation of alkaligrass had significant effect on the improvement of soil texture and characters,depletion of salinity of surface layer soil and increase in fertilizers' holding and providing capacities.The plantation of alkaligrass also could promote growth of forage plants planted after alkaligrass.[Conclusion] Planting alkaligrass in saline soil was one of less cost and better effect way to recover barren soil.This effective biological recovery method could be extended and applied in the whole beach in order to solve severe shortage of local arable land.
