Clay Mineralogy of Sediments in Gyirong Basin,Tibet and Paleoclimatic Significance

XUE Hui-juan et al (Department of Earth Sciences,China University of Geosciences,Wuhan,Hubei 430074)  
Clay minerals in sediments had some ancient environmental significance.Studies on Gyirong Basin Pliocene sediments showed that the most composition of the sediments were smectite,kaolinite,chlorite,illite,sanidine,quartz,calcite and less gypsum.Gyirong Basin experienced from warm and solid to cold and arid.Ancient humid climate had gradually changed from the evolution of drying.Sediments illite crystallinity measurements showed that the ancient humid climate had gradually changed from the evolution of drying.
