Effects of Betaine on Photosynthesis of Tomato under Salt Stress

[Objective] The research aimed to study the effects of betaine on photosynthesis of tomato under salt stress.[Method] The plants of tomato were grown with different concentrations of glycinebetaine(5.0、10.0、20.0、50.0 mmol/L),others were cultured in hoagland solution as a control.The changes of chlorophyll content in tomato seedlings and photosynthesis parameters were determined.[Result] The results indicated that,under salt stress,exogenous betaine could improve chlorophyll content and chlorophyll a fluorescence induction kinetics parameters Fv/Fo,Fv/Fm of leaves of tomato seedlings and thus alleviated the inhibition of seedlings growth under salt stress.Moreover,it was found that betaine concentration at 5.0 mmol/L was suitable for seedling application.[Conclusion] Root application of betaine had the effects of improving salt resistance of tomato seedlings.
